I got a email from DO_Checker asking me to put up a server for this weekend. I will host this on server "[RIP] SERVER #6" This is the settings on the server:

Level=Dogshack
MaxPlayers=4
TimeLimit=0
KillGoal=50
RespawnTime=25
fps=9

If this is not how you would like it setup. Let me know.

DCrazy has written a cool review about this level. But I´m pretty shure that he has never played this level with skilled players in a lan. And when he comes to his conclusions I have to disagree. Giving 4 out of 5 point „originality“ makes me think that DCrazy tests without a monitor. Even Sounds have been altered, coming to the point that this level has unique textures, weapons, sounds – what else can be modified without spoiling gameplay?

His thoughts about weapon balance are also hard to follow. Could it be that DCrazy is a Fusion whore;-)? Subway Dancer plays fast, I mean really fast, this has nothing to do with high ping players.
I think it is great that SD is chosen as „Lotw“, but the to give 3.5 out of 5 points means that this levels plays slightly above avarage. That´s not true, SD is a really great MOD.

I fully agree with Acer!
But remember, that he wrote: It's a level you'll whether like or hate!
I'm usually a MD-Fighter. But if this Level had a MD, I think it would lose a lot of game-fun. Every Level has its typical charme. And just like we discussed about Fischleins Level-Voting-System, you can only vote for your own opinion.
I think the balance is better than 3 too, but I also heard from other pilots, that they got problems to find their own balance in handling the modified secondaries. According to this, he probably voted for these people too. But by playing it a few times more, everybody will find this balance and will pay attention to the not obviosly detalis like the (oh my English) "reflected" flight of Megas, when touching the walls in a small angle.
And there are still other small things, you can find by playing it more often, than only one time, to have a short look!

you hate the level or you like it... this level really polarizes the players. but that exactly shows how great it is. (i am one of the "likers" hehe) graphics are great, sound is great, gameplay is great what else do you want?

only thing after playing it a little is, there seems to be some strange hud-messages during game session...

some sugestions:
perhaps some of the modified secondaries are to strong, to much "one-shoot-kills")
and perhaps atan should release one version without modified weapons for all the perm-whinnies (just kidding guys)

anyway some great work, if i only would be able to do 1/1000 of design such a level i would be really happy.

cu in the mines, (i am that guy with pyrogl in the station waiting for the train all the time)

I think the strength of the modified secondaries is not comparable to the standards. Of course there are "One-Shot-Killers", but on the other side you have to learn to use them very carefully! I never had so many selfkills before! The "Igel" for example (frag-mod) is the perfect selfkiller if you like zo greet your oponent, sitting behind a corner and I try to shoot it quite close to this corner. Boom!
The other thing is, that you have to use these very fast missiles like an MD. So you need a bit skill to hit the aim you like in a very short time. I think these new weapons are so good, that I feel they could (theoratically) fit to original D3.
But thats only my opinion!
I hope to see these secondaries in coming levels too!

You don't need primaries in this level, completely fucked up.

The secondaries are much too strong. There is no skill needed, just luck.

Not my taste.

And, of course, the MD is missing...

Don't know the reason why SD becomes so public,
a lot better level must be outside too.
But please let me reflect here a little to all your comments now:

'Love it or hate it'
that's really true and well known by all leveldesigners.
So how should we design, or better for which type of Descent player should we design our level?
Or should we better build for reviewers to have some success and 5/5 ? Smilie
Well, for my part I can say that I'm building for myself first, because it is not possible to reach all types of player.

Knowing the limitations of the engines I would never try to build a real life level, that's not possible,
would never be playable. So all ideas that I build SD like a real European Subway are def. wrong.
Only the shields names are taken from real London, nothing else Smilie

But I'm following one idea since I'm building D1 / D2 Singleplayer levels..
and it seems that I did this well this time..
My idea is to produce pictures, feelings into each player,
and the missing reality is done by the player himself.., by seeing more as really is inside the level.
Placing that 'trigger points' into a well mix of tunnels and rooms (slow and fast areas)
not following the D3 idea 'all has to be huge' inside a level.. let this one become a good looking and fast one.
Unnecessary to tell that this all was tested a very lot of times to get this result.

Energy center problem?
Never had this, I can't see that point, maybe I never lived long enough Smilie

Elevator shaft..
the elevator is there, but it's broken and it followed the gravity Smilie

Ok, looking to the SD-download-counter at Fischleins website let me think
that a lot of players may like this level, others may have dl it and deleted then.
I got many many mails or online statements where players told me that thy like this level a lot.
These are players from America, Canada or from Europe or elsewhere.
Some players wished some modifications.., most dislike the speed of the acid_homers
a point I can agree.
Weapons, now, this may be /the/ point why this level is focused last time and not the design,
who really knows?
Did I insert some little fresh ideas into the D3 world here?
Made that 'testing the weapons so often' them to good balanced weapons now?
We all know the answer : No! but most of them are very playable.

I know very well that this all is not perfect but I build and 'programmed' as good as I could
this level was really not build during one day or one week.
And together with all the betatesters work it become as it is now.. a normal level which becomes very very public Smilie

Nevertheless I'm a little proud about this level,
It should be seen in together with all the work of ALL German levelbuilders here (i.e. Roadi named for all others here)
and
I'm proud too that this level is a little step more to made us German levelbuilder known a little more
in America, let our American or other English speaking friends find our 'hidden forum' in the Descent world now.

Atan, this level ROCK's. Great job

There is no way to please all of the people that play this game. I do not understand why the ones that make all of these negative comments about levels. Never put one out them self’s. All they know how to do is down someone else' work.( I better quit before my tenmper gets the best of me)

Anyway..... I know when I host this level it stays full. Great job and keep up the good work. Can not wait to see you next level.


I would like to use your weapons Mod in a level I am trying to do. I think DwnUndr asked this of you too.

I would like to offer: If you ever need Bata testers Team RIP would be glad to help out. Just let us know.

Well thats not true. Everyone has his one opinion. Most people like this level, some don't (as me).
I think this level is ok, (and yes i know how much work it is to write such a level). The level has some nice aspects, but none of them weights so much that i could say "WOW, what a level".
The level structure is very nice, but there is no atmosphere (lightning is heavily missing). I feel as i would fly through a hospital, not a underground station.
The modded weapons looks nice, but they are too heavy and disbalanced (compared to primary weapons). There is too much one-shot-killing, this didnt make sense to me if the whole level concentrates on this.
The next (very) negative aspect is that the modded weapons doesn't fit in most weapon orders, so that you have to switch weapons permanently (which i really hate, because i have to stop when i do this - where primary switching works even in fight).

I fully agree with u if you said above

but I really can't see your last point.
D3 let u choose whatever you want for prim or sec in setup, this is free chooseable for everyone.
If you have /your/ config, so it's your own thing.
Such good players as u are should be able to use the weapons as they are.
Must I really explain that there are some reasons behind why I tooked this ones..,
or better why I must use them for that replacement?
Well, otherwise the ideas behind simple would not work in D3.
I know that you i.e. dislike that point, but I really can't see why this should be a bad point, sorry.

As I must see here, and this is interessting for me, most of the 'worlds best players' have 'problems' with this little level Smilie
Remember, there is no need playing that level and possible be killed by a newbies 'one shot kill'..
BTW this is only possible by the acid missile or a really full hit by the 5-mini-frag..
If you own your full shild you can't be killed by the other weapons
with 'one shot', simply not true.

What I really missed Munk, is your earlier given comment
about 'I dislike the level because it's looking to much Half Live' like.. (just kidding !! Smilie
Serious, all other points I can live with, no problem.
