hmm...

Internet-gateway (Verbindungsfreigabe)?

Allgemein würd ich mir KEIN ME installieren NUR wegen FFB.

quote:
Why am I unable to use the Microsoft SideWinder Force Feedback joystick?

This is problem is related to what I/O address the MIDI port on the mainboard is set to. If the on-board MIDI port I/O address is set to either 300h or 330h, the joystick will respond slow, and the force feedback function will be shut down completely. To solve this issue the I/O address will have to be changed in the BIOS to an address other than 300h or 330h.

hier: http://www.ntcompatible.com/mb.shtml hab ich gelesen:
quote:

Works
fine with both Win2000 RC1 and now RC3/2183. Instead of trying to
install Win98 software for it, all I did was go to the Game Controllers
option on the Win2000 control panel, click Add... and selected "SideWinder
auto detect". The OS recognized the MS SideWinder
ForceFeedback Pro, and I got instant force feedback support in games
that support it (like Need for Speed 3).

Ausserdem guck mal hier:

O-Ton MS (http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/sidewinder/SWUpdate/default.asp):

However, the accompanying SideWinder software (version 3.02 or any previous version) will not function, so you will not be able to create profiles for these devices using the SideWinder software on Windows 2000 or Windows XP. Microsoft is not planning to update the SideWinder software (version 3.02) for game port devices.

1.
The following table contains an operating system compatibility list for Microsoft
SideWinder game controllers:

+--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+
| Game Controller | Windows 95 | Windows 98/Me | Windows NT 4 | Windows 2000 |
+--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+
| SideWinder standard | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
+--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+
| SideWinder 3DPro | Yes | Yes | Yes * | Yes |
+--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+
| SideWinder Game Pad | Yes | Yes | No | Yes |
+--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+
| SideWinder Plug and Play Game Pad | No | Yes | No | Yes |
+--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+
| SideWinder Game Pad Pro | No | Yes | No | No ** |
+--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+
| SideWinder FreeStyle Pro | Yes *** | Yes | No | Yes |
+--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+

| SideWinder Force Feedback Wheel | Yes | Yes | No | Yes |
+--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+
| SideWinder Force Feedback Wheel (USB) | No | Yes | No | No ** |
+--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+

2.
** You can install and run version 4.0 of the SideWinder software on a Windows
2000-based computer. However, all features may not function as expected, and the
SideWinder software may not function properly. To install the SideWinder
software on Windows 2000, you must log on as an administrator.

3.
If you use a SideWinder USB-only game controller, verify that the SideWinder Game
Controller Software version 4.0 is installed on your computer.

If you use a game port-only or a hybrid game port/USB game controller, verify
that version 3.02 or earlier of the SideWinder Game Device Profiler or the
SideWinder Game Controller software is installed on your computer.

4.
SYMPTOMS
========

While using the SideWinder Force Feedback Pro joystick in a game enhanced with
force feedback effects, you do not feel the force feedback effects.

CAUSE
=====

The SideWinder Force Feedback Pro uses MIDI to transmit force feedback effects.
If the MIDI features of the sound card are not functioning properly then the
force feedback effects will not be felt. Microsoft has created a serial adapter
that uses a serial port to communicate the force feedback effects signal. If the
steps outlined in the RESOLUTION section of this article do not resolve this
problem, you may need a serial adapter.

5.
This article describes how to troubleshoot SideWinder game controllers that
display a status of "Not Connected" in the Game Controllers tool in Control
Panel.

MORE INFORMATION
================

To troubleshoot a SideWinder game controller that displays a status of "Not
Connected," use the following methods in the order in which they are presented.

- Check the Minimum System Requirements
- Verify That the Operating System Supports the Game Controller
- Verify That the Game Controller Is Connected to the Correct Port
- Connect the Game Controller Directly to the Game Port
- Inspect the Connector on the Game Controller
- Use the Latest Version of the SideWinder Game Controller Software
- Verify That You Are Using the Most Recent Drivers for Your Sound Card
- Verify That the Gameport Joystick Device Is Installed Properly
- Configure Your Sound Card to Use Only One Direct Memory Access (DMA) Channel
- Check the System Resources Used By the Gameport Joystick
- Check for Multiple Instances of the Same Device
- Additional Troubleshooting Steps

After you complete each method, check the game controller status in the Game
Controller tool in Control Panel to see if the issue is resolved. If the status
is still "Not Connected," continue to the next troubleshooting method.

Check the Minimum System Requirements
-------------------------------------

Verify that your system meets the minimum system requirements required for both
the SideWinder game controller and the SideWinder Game Controller software.

NOTE: The minimum system requirements for the SideWinder game controllers and the
SideWinder Game Controller software are printed on the product box.

Verify That the Operating System Supports the Game Controller
-------------------------------------------------------------

Verify that the operating system you are using supports your SideWinder game
controller. Supported operating systems are listed in the minimum system
requirements printed on the product box.

For example, on a Microsoft Windows NT-based computer only the SideWinder
Standard, and SideWinder 3D Pro are supported, and each of these game
controllers require that Windows NT Service Pack 3 or later be installed on the
computer.

Additionally, the SideWinder Force Feedback Pro, SideWinder Precision Pro, and
SideWinder game pad, are not supported in an MS-DOS environment.

Verify That the Game Controller Is Connected to the Correct Port
----------------------------------------------------------------

Verify that your SideWinder game controller is connected directly to the game
port on your sound card. The game port on a sound card and the port on a network
card can appear similar.

Connect the Game Controller Directly to the Game Port.
------------------------------------------------------

Connect the SideWinder game controller directly to the game port on your sound
card. If you use a Y-adapter, extension cable, switch box, or dual-port game
card, the game controller may not work properly.

If you are using the Pass-Through port on a SideWinder game pad, verify that
Pass-Through mode is enabled on the game pad (the green LED is lit) or connect
the SideWinder game controller directly to the game port.

Inspect the Connector on the Game Controller
--------------------------------------------

Verify that the SideWinder game controller connector does not have broken or bent
pins.

Use the Latest Version of the SideWinder Game Controller Software
-----------------------------------------------------------------

If you are using an older version of the SideWinder Game Controller software,
download and install the latest version of the software from the following
Microsoft Web site:

http://www.microsoft.com/sidewinder

Verify That You Are Using the Most Recent Drivers for Your Sound
Card
---------------------------------------------------------------------

To determine the manufacturer and model of your sound card, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.

2. Double-click System.

3. Click the Device Manager tab.

4. Click the PLUS SIGN (+) next to Sound, Video, And Game Controllers to expand
the branch.
