In place of the usual games, dedicated servers with a custom-made level are being hosted today in memory of David Bradley a.k.a. [Nub2]CatDawg a.k.a. [RIP]Phenomena, who was lost to the Descent3 community one year ago today. The entire D3 community is invited to enjoy this level in his honor.

From the write-up by DwnUndr:

----------------------------------------------------

This special version of Wicked Garden has been created to honor the memory of [Nub2]CatDawg aka [RIP]Phenomena. He left lasting impressions on the members of both teams during his gaming career.

----------------------------------------------------

David Louis Bradley, 50, of Chaffee died Wednesday, March 7, 2007, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis at about 10:45 pm (cst).

He was born May 4, 1956, in Lawton, Okla., son of Donald Louis and Shirley Jean Melvin Bradley. He and Vivian Stacy were married Aug. 9, 1987.

Bradley was a cable technician with Charter Communications. He was a member of Chaffee General Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Donald Bradley II, Charles and Ryan Bradley, all of Chaffee; his mother, Shirley Cowley of Lake Placid, Fla.; seven brothers, Larry Bradley of Jackson, Mike Bradley of Blomeyer, Donald and Daniel Bradley of Chaffee, Roger Bradley of St. Louis, Bryan Bradley of Chesterfield, Mo., and Jon Bradley of Camdenton, Mo.

----------------------------------------------------

Relatives of his: his nephew Krazydawg, his son Bigman and his brothers Meatball, Alphadog and Riot.

He touched the lives of many people and has two videos made for him, one from Descent 3 and one from Freelancer.

Descent 3 Memorial video made by [Nub2]Badboy

A very nice service was held in the Freelancer mod Monkey Universe. Thanks to Princess Dia for coordinating it, d3jake for the music and >MP<Tunicle for giving us a memorial ventrilo channel to chat on.

Freelancer Memorial video made by [RIP]Soupman

A public thread about his struggle.

Thanks to the following people for this memorial level:
TMinusTen for creating this level and allowing this special version to be made.
[RIP]DwnUndr and [RIP]d3jake for converting it.
Atan for the improved editor and answering final lighting questions.
Do_Checkor for current download urls.

Since this is the level CatDawg/Phenomena loved so much, nothing has been changed except fixing a few wall glitches and adding pictures. The location of the signs was desired by his brother Meatball.

A poem that Hellion (on DescentBB.net) found:

When Tomorrow Starts Without Me

When tomorrow starts without me,
And I'm not there to see,
If the sun should rise and find your eyes
All filled with tears for me;

I wish so much you wouldn't cry
The way you did today,
While thinking of the many things,
We didn't get to say.

I know how much you love me,
As much as I love you,
And each time that you think of me,
I know you'll miss me too;

But when tomorrow starts without me,
Please try to understand,
That an angel came and called my name,
And took me by the hand,

And said my place was ready,
In heaven far above,
And that I'd have to leave behind
All those I dearly love.

But as I turned to walk away,
A tear fell from my eye
For all my life, I'd always thought,
I didn't want to die.

I had so much to live for,
So much left yet to do,
It almost seemed impossible
That I was leaving you.

I thought of all the yesterdays,
The good ones and the bad,
I thought of all the love we shared,
And all the fun we had.

If I could relive yesterday,
Just even for a while,
I'd say good-bye and kiss you
And maybe see you smile.

But then I fully realized,
That this could never be,
For emptiness and memories,
Would take the place of me.

And when I thought of worldly things,
I might miss come tomorrow,
I thought of you, and when I did,
My heart was filled with sorrow.

But when I walked through heaven's gates,
I felt so much at home.
When God looked down and smiled at me,
From His great golden throne,

He said, "This is eternity,
And all I've promised you.
Today your life on earth is past,
But here life starts anew.

I promise no tomorrow,
But today will always last,
And since each day's the same way
There's no longing for the past.

You have been so faithful,
So trusting and so true.
Though there were times you did some things
You knew you shouldn't do.

But you have been forgiven
And now at last you're free.
So won't you come and take my hand
And share my life with me?"

So when tomorrow starts without me,
Don't think we're far apart,
For every time you think of me,
I'm right here, in your heart.
----------------------------------------------------

From [RIP]Shark:

to Our friend David, the Phenomena...
you were taken from us too soon
we honor your memory
we'll miss your selfless contributions
joyful company and laughter
your mischief
your skill
and your friendship

know we will see you again.
----------------------------------------------------

From [RIP]DwnUndr:

To his brothers Riot, Wardog and Meatball, and to his nephew Krazydawg and his son Bigman, Team RIP offers its support in this time of loss. David was a real special person, but I guess you already knew that.

I remember a number of times that we would be playing d3 and someone would mention a level that we hadn't played in a long time. A few minutes later Phenom would tell us that he had just put that level up on his server for us to enjoy. As we all piled in and asked him if he was coming, he would usually say no, he was too tired and was going to lie down. He really was a special guy to be doing something like that for us when he was feeling so bad.

As we honor him today we know he will not be forgotten. Not only are several members of his family near to us but his presence will be remembered in other ways too. RIP members know of what I speak.

See you in the mines and in space soon David.
