IN YOUR FACE #3

Hosted by DwnUndr, Nightmare, Shark, Team RIP and Heiko Herrmann!

Welcome to the third chance to get your personal picture to show up whenever you play an audio taunt! It has taken ten weeks and scores of emails to get all of this together. Thanks to WC Stormcrow and WC Zappafan for giving me the go-ahead and Zappa for getting me the email addy for Heiko Herrmann from the Descent Network Team, the person who modified the original Outrage converter program for use in the IYF2 promotion back in 2001. Heiko just spend the New Years Holidays remaking that program from scratch for us all. Thanks Heiko!

I will follow the lead from IYF2. If you are interested, read all about the IYF2 here: http://www.descent.it/IYF2_FAQ_en.htm They have stated so much there that I will ask you to simply read it rather than me repeating it all here. Note a new requirement...a pilot name can be 17 characters maximum. Each pilot can submit up to 5 pilot pictures (there are already 1,904 from the original release plus the 2001 promotion). If you are on a team, don't expect the team to last forever, submit a picture with your regular pilot name as well. I guess roughly 85% of the current pics don't apply anymore (they changed teams or disappeared). However, ALL of the past pics will still be bundled with the new ones, no worries. I swear, BAMA must have 50 nicknames in there, heh.

Hmmm, I will give 5 extra logos to the FIRST person who can accurately tell me exactly how many times BAMA's picture is shown in the IYF2 picture set, heh. This MUST be posted on the ripteam.com public board.

To make it even more fun to walk down memory lane with some of these old pilots, ALL 1,904 current pics have been placed on a website for you to look at. Thanks to Nightmare for this site and the extensive work of setting up the pictures! http://moreclang.com . This is also the site where you can view all of the new pictures as they come in (about 24 hours after I receive them).

Do you need to look at some current logos for ideas? Search your computer for ogftool.exe (it came with the original D3 install). Open it and point it to your Descent3\custom\graphics folder (with the ogftool set to look for ogf files). This utility will convert from ogf to tga and back again.

Note: Offensive or pornographic logos will probably be dropped without comment. No need for that stuff.

Please submit your pics as 64 x 64 pixel TGA or jpg files, it will make my work much easier. Format is 16 million colors (24 bit).

SUBMIT pics to: inyourface3@ripteam.com

Please don't post questions here, as I have made this announcement on nine separate boards. Please use the discussion page up on our Public BB here: http://ripteam.com . This way the same question doesn't have to be answered a dozen times, heh. Many thanks to Shark for the time to setup and improve our Public board for this event as well as setting up the email for submissions!
Hopefully some people from the D3 community will volunteer to help those who don't know how to make their own logos. If you would like to help, look for the forum where others have volunteered.

DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS: March 1st, 2005. This gives 7 weeks verses the 5 weeks from the last promotion. Get those pictures taken!

what about different pictures for the same pilot-name? does this work?

in d3 you get a big pop up for selecting your pilot picture. and it says, "there are no available pictures for this pilot" if there are no pics present.

so would it be possible to have different pictures for the same pilot?

That is my understanding. that is why each pic is indexed by the converter program.
pilot_1
pilot_2

How do we have to name the pictures? Is it possible to number the pics by our self, or would this end in
Maulwurf_0_0.ogf if i send you a file called Maulwurf_0.tga ?

No worries. I am renaming them as they come in (and checking them for transaprencies, proper size and bit, duplicates of existing names, etc). There are already two duplicates, named _1 now.

so our clan could send you pics like Maulwurf_0.tga and Maulwurf_1.tga ?
I don't want to make you needless work, you know? It's great that some pilots offer their time to do such a big project for D3. And needless work is the last thing you need, I think Smilie

That is correct. Although I don't know what happens after _9. Maybe _10 won't work? It hasn't been tested yet.

Of course, those extras would only be necessary if all the pictures are different. Any number of pilots can use the same logo at the same time.

One update...the = and * can't be used in a pilot name. Someone has already tried, heh. Here are the characters that have already been used in IYF2 and are okay:

(blank space)
_ (underscore)
- (dash)
^
[ ] { } ( )
' (plural)
. (period)
@
!
~
&

I have not seen (and assume won't work) the #, $, %, |, <, >. ;. :, ", ?, /, \, +
