The only advantage of MP3 is its popularity. No surprise I guess...

The sad truth, Lion. To often the more popular/pushed system wins, not the better one.

Mal schaun, was die Zukunft so bringt.

Which is the better one? Ogg, MPC, AAC? And by what definition? True, all codecs achieve better results on lower bitrates (no surpise there since they are 'advancements' of mp3) than mp3 but mp3 was here first and almost every device out there supports it and every future device probably too. Using a decent VBR bitrate it also achieves transparency and the few KB saved per file by the later formats are becoming less important considering the falling prices of storage media.

Falling MB-prices are never a reason to waste it. Sehr glücklich

However:
considering the license of MP3, OGG would be the better choice.
considering hte quality at lower bitrates, OGG would be the better choice.

The better one for your would be to judge what pleases you the most. Since I would like to share the converted MIDI OST, I choose OGG, since not all Linux distributions have MP3 playback due of legal reasons. OGG is always possible.

Actually the base for my decision is not even the MB-size, but the CPU-Cycles. The less are needed for the music the more I can use for rendering.

Hallo,

- Timidity++
