Sorry, another post in English from me, because I didn't listen during my school German classes.

Made some big improvements to Glidos lately (http://www.glidos.net) which very much improve support for D2. One thing I've been battling with is getting the game to run at the correct speed, and to get the controls smooth. At last I've got there. There was also a problem that could lead to Glidos leaving D2 running without a window at high priority, which made it look like a system crash. That problem is cured. Runs really smooth now, even on a 800MHz Athlon.

There's still some care needed in setting it up. You need to use D2_3dfx. Make sure you have the CD in, otherwise the game will fail to start, without you seeing the error message. Even if you are using the No-CD crack for D2_3dfx, you still need to put a CD in your drive, although it doesn't matter what the CD is. If you have a copy of D2 already installed that has been used with D2X, then you need to reinstall D2.

I haven't kept up to date with D2X developments lately. When I first got Glidos to work with D2, D2X was very unstable. If D2X has much improved since that time, then maybe Glidos isn't needed for D2 any longer.

That sounds pretty cool. Once I go forward to a new game, I rarely go back to previous versions. I know people have had a hard time getting Descent 1 and 2 to work since they are so old. Thanks for the heads up in case I ever go to a D2 revival, heh.
